Skull jewellery is once again popular. The young hang skull pendants on their phones and bags, celebrities wear skull rings. Originally skulls were only a Buddhist thing. To Buddhists' they remind of the drive to Nevada, preventing time wasted building ego, which is useless upon death. Similarly, Goths highlight suffering, to contrast from living and create an optimistic outlook. Skulls show that life is temporary, and are a symbol that we're all flirting with death -  representing a quest to survive and be careful - explaining why pirates fly the skull and cross bones.
